Question by Justin M: I Have a Question About Wireless Routers?
I have a ADSL internet (or so it says on my modem, the little box thing) and im getting a wireless router for my Birthday(i have wire internet right now). What kind of router do i need to get? My modem box also says OvisLink.
I want it for xbox live

Best answer:

Answer by Liz
Any ol’ wireless router will do, but if you can go the extra few bucks get an “N” type (rather than b/g) you won;t regret it. It’s got better range and better stability. It does NOT have a higher speed.

In some cases, you need to put your modem in to “PPPoE bridge mode” in order to have it communicate with a router…

Question by hexagog: How do I connect my PDA to my D-Link router?
I need to connect it via wi-fi, which both devices have installed and ready to use. My PDA detects the router’s Wi-Fi, but cannot connect. How do I figure out things like security settings for Wi-Fi connections? My PDA is a Palm T/X that is Brand New. It works perfectly. How do I get it to connect? I’m really desperate, but will not contact D-Link because this router is no longer supported. (D-Link DSL-300G) Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by dzr0001
you need to ask whoever set the router up what the security settings are

like what channel, what kind of encryption, what the encryption passwords are, and make sure that it will allow connections.

Question by ys_old_owl: Cisco wireless router setup?
I just got a Cisco Wireless Router to connect the three computers in this house. We are on the Internet through HughesNet. I followed the wiring instructions exactly. The primary computer is a Dell Dimensions 2300 running Win XP, SP2 and it is hooked up with the Hughes console. The two others are laptops, a Dell running XP and a new Compaq running Win 7.

I have tried several times to install the wireless router, only to get the following error message:

Cisco Setup Wizard cannot run over a wireless connection.
Error 311: No Wired Adapter Detected
If your computer has a wired network adapter (i.e., ethernet port), then follow these steps:
1) Enable your wired network adapter.
2) Click RETRY to try installing your router again.

*If your computer does not have a wired network adapter, then contact your computer manufacturer for help.

Um, hello Cisco: obviously my computer does have a wired network adapter, or I would not be using HughesNet? I followed Cisco’s instructions to the letter but cannot get past the above. Cisco’s “support” is no help. Thanks in advance for any assistance here!
Per the instructions, we unplugged the HughesNet modem from the computer and plugged it in to the wireless router, then plugged the wireless router back into the Ethernet port.

Best answer:

Answer by Todd
So, what is the Cisco router connected to? If I’m understanding properly your computer is connected to the Hughsnet device, but is the router connected too? I’m not familiar with Hughsnet’s setup, but I would imagine the receiver would have an Ethernet out which would be connected to the router’s WAN port.

Give your answer to this question below!
